ABOUT

GOLD, the precious metal that has shaped countries, brought wealth and prosperity to some, but also the metal that has brought misery and despair to others in the hunt for it.

My name is James Linnett and in 2013, I found my first bit of Gold from a river in Scotland.  From then, I can certainly say that I was hooked.

On a cold February weekend, I found myself on the Mennok river, which is up near Wanlockhead and Leadhills, Scotland.  I was with Leon Kirk and he showed me how gold can be found in the rivers and the basics of panning for Gold.  After moving a lot of material and getting down a good couple of feet into the river, I put some gravels into my Pan and started to shake side to side like you see in the movies, so i could see what’s left at the bottom.  After shaking down, so only a little bit of gravel was left, I had a look and there it was, the precious metal that I’ve always loved, just sat there in all its glory.  Granted, it was only a couple of small bits, but wow, there I have my own Gold that I have Panned myself and from that moment I knew this would be the hobby for me.

From that moment, I have spent most of my weekends and leave, panning for Gold around the UK and abroad. Every time i come home and people asked what i had been up to, they would laugh once i told them i went gold panning, as they didn’t believe that such a hobby was available here in the UK, but once i showed them the gold, then the laughing stopped and the awestruck moment took over.

As many people would always question me about my unique hobby, i decided i wanted to start to share my adventures and came up with the name, UK Gold Panning Adventures. It started out as a YouTube Channel, but as i went out more often, i realised that in order for me to share the true experience of the hobby, i should make a website for all to come and see.

So join me on my adventures without yourself getting wet, cold and miserable from the comfort of your own home and see how one of the worlds most precious metals finds its way into my collection.

When people ask, do i have The Gold Fever, i just look at them and say nothing, as the know they have asked a silly question.
